LINDENWOLD, NJ
A tragic accident claimed the life of a pedestrian in Lindenwold on Friday night, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. near the intersection of East Gibbsboro Road and South Emerson Avenue in Camden County. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a pedestrian suffering from severe injuries after being hit by a vehicle.
Officials have confirmed that the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. As of Saturday morning, no charges had been filed, and authorities have not indicated whether speed, visibility, or impairment were factors in the crash.
This stretch of East Gibbsboro Road is a mixed-use corridor with both residential homes and nearby businesses, and local residents say it’s an area where traffic moves quickly and pedestrian safety can be a concern.
“It’s heartbreaking,” said one nearby resident. “People walk through here all the time—families, kids, people heading to the bus stop. Something has to change.”
The Lindenwold Police Department and Camden County Crash Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. They have asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact them directly.
The community is mourning the loss of life in what officials are calling a preventable tragedy. As pedestrian fatalities rise across New Jersey and the nation, transportation officials and local leaders are under growing pressure to improve safety on heavily traveled roads, especially in residential and suburban areas.
No further details, including the name or age of the victim, were available at the time of publication. Authorities are expected to release more information in the coming days.
